An American Tragedy

In today’s NYT, “The [Vietnam] war, ... became an American tragedy.” What’s missing here? What’s always missing when Americans think of or write about the Vietnam war?... The war was a Vietnamese tragedy, with a walk-on (and incredibly destructive) role for America late in the day; a role as an oblivious leviathan striking out around it blindly in all directions....
