My parents had an old one and my father put it back into working order for me. I remember coming home to find the typewriter sitting on the dining table. There was a piece of paper in it already and a single black line splotchy from its fresh-ink deflowering:
I AM THE MOST HANDSOME MAN ALIVE.
I was so happy. I spent the rest of the evening watching Sci-Fi segments of Atlantis, fervently typing down everything Edgar Cayce said in his dream sleep.
Wow -- a beautiful story. Wish I hadn't got rid of my old Olivetti portable way back before you were born...
For typewriter cultists or completists out there, check out The Classic Typewriter Page, which I hadn't seen before today but appears to be ten years old now...

I want a typewriter really, really bad.
