The Hygenic Dog Food Factory. I'm sorry, but if you don't know where this is, you just don't know Berkeley. Or at least you don't know that large part of Berkeley that's beyond the stereotypes...

i supose it's not food for hygenic dogs? nice bit of dilapidation going on there. and, no, i've never been to berkeley.

Ah, it's "Health Food For Dogs", as it says on the side. The building's always been grimy and rather grim, and used to be full of scary-looking machinery and old car parts. No one I know remembers when it actually built health food for dogs. I always wanted to buy the place and turn it into a restaurant called the Hygenic Dog Food Factory, of course.

Oh I know it. I lived in it. On the upper floor. My band practiced there too. It got so cold in there you could see your breath! No heat I guess. Nice blog-

Wow — someone who's actually been inside the place! I've been taking photos of it since the late 1980's (I think the one here dates from about 1989 or 1990) but no one else has ever owned up to actually living or working there yet…
