I love these comparisons. What a shame they painted over the really bizarre gun mural with nice beige paint. My fave is the last pair though, the shop has been repainted but the graffiti left intact!

Yeah, the last pair is there because pretty much nothing changed, even the grafitti. There was a huge fuss when they painted over the mural — but in a year or so you won't be able to see that wall at all anyway, because they're building some tacky new flats in the vacant lot next to it. I think the top pair's the most telling: what used to be a pawn shop is now a hip cafe, and the airconditioner in the little window's the sort of thing that's common now but unheard of when I took the original pic. I should post a few more of these when I get the time…
