The S Word

In today's NYT, Ben Sisario ponders Arcade Fire's success and the critical and fan backlash that that success seems to be engendering. But it's not their supposed selling out that turns me away from Arcade Fire — it's the god-awful earnestness and sheer self-advertising worthiness of the music and lyrics that does it for me (I don't know much about the band itself). If I hear another Arcade Fire song I think I'll quietly scream….
