The Eternal Question
It happens all the time when I'm here nowadays: as Dipak and I are walking through Customs at Heathrow after the flight from California, he (English) asks me (British) what I'm going to do when Scotland starts issuing its own passport? It's not a new question for me, but it's always unavoidable, and more real than ever, especially now that even UK number plates come with optional little "UK", England, or Scotland variants on the underlying British theme and format.I think (as I've said before) I really don't think of myself as having nationalities so much as having regionalities or even city citizenships. Not an Australian, but perhaps a Sydneysider; never English but definitely a Londoner; not American, but definitely a Bay Area denizen. We shall see…
