Branding The 'Hood

You can't walk five yards in my neighborhood nowadays without coming face to face with enormous logos proclaiming one brand or another, competing with each other for block after block on every surface imaginable. There's not an unbranded wall within a mile of my studio.

Graffiti isn't like advertising — it is advertising. The battle of the brands: who can piss highest or furthest — and who can piss all over a neighborhood the most effectively. Corporate advertising's got nothing on this for single-minded dedication to branding; the wonder is always why certain people reflexively celebrate the effort.
