Disrupters Of The World, Unite!
It's time to retire that strutting, smug, self-satisfied word "disruptive" (except perhaps as an ironic putdown). It's become the "synergy" of 2014 — a term that invariably signals "Warning! Warning! Marketing (or self-promotion) ahead". And self-proclaimed disruptiveness has all the same sort of stale and desperate LOOK-AT-ME!! air that self-proclaimed transgressiveness has.And just to self-Godwin on all this, the Nazis were disruptive, the Great Leap Forward was disruptive, Putin's disruptive, food poisoning is disruptive, BART's Daily Technical Troubles are disruptive, poorly-tied shoelaces are disruptive. Where's the glamour in all that?
